BS Yedyurappa the former BJP Chief Minister of Karnataka admitted that the present ‘war like’ situation was being created for the forthcoming general elections. When the whole country is waiting anxiously for the fate of the Indian Air Force pilot captured by Pakistani forces, Yedyurappa was quoted saying that India’s air strike on a terror camp in Pakistan on Tuesday has created a wave in favour of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and will help the party win over 22 of 28 seats in the state.
In an election rally in Chitradurga he said, “Pakistan has been taught a lesson, after 40 years PM Modi has done it. Youth are celebrating; all this will help us in winning more than 22 Lok Sabha seats (in Karnataka).”
There has been a wave of criticism across the country after these comments by Yedyurappa. While the current situation requires the country to stay united, Yedyurappa is walking in the opposite direction. Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee questioned the Prime Minister whether Jawans are being pushed to death for only political gains. Yedyurappa proves that her concerns were not misplaced. The National Spokesperson and Leader of Trinamool Congress in Rajya Sabha, Mr Derek O’Brien expressed his severe condemnation through a tweet in which he wrote “Sound bytes from BJP leaders now letting the cat out of the bag… see second paragraph of the Joint Statement released yesterday from 21 parties”
Even the social media is flooded with condemnation for such statements by BJP leaders. They are asking whether winning the elections is everything for BJP? Isn’t the country’s security under great risk? Is the BJP’s sole aim to create a war-like situation in the country?
