Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee spoke about communal harmony in a function organised by the Marowari Association to mark the occasion of Holi. She said ”Bengal makes everybody their own. If somebody asks you not to mix or to have food with different communities, please don’t listen to them. Bengal does not believe in them.”
Without naming BJP she mentioned that “we don’t have to learn religion from them.” She threw an open challenge to Prime Minister Modi to compete with her in chanting religious mantras.
The Chief Minister did not talk much about politics in the event. In fact she showcased Bengal’s unique culture surrounding various festivals including Holi. She said that “In Bengal people from all communities are free to hold festivals in peace. But nowadays certain people from Delhi are spreading canards about the state.”
She also warned people that they might be provoked in different ways during the festival of colours. She added that many would want violence but urged them to play with colours of love rather than blood.
