Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee will be going to Delhi on 10th of December, 2018 to attend the meeting of opposition parties. This meeting is expected to be the beginning of the process of formalising the anti BJP united opposition front.
It is to be noted that the Winter Session of the Parliament will begin just a day after that is on 11th of December and the on the same day the result of 5 State Assemblies will be declared. Political analysts believe that Mamata Banerjee’s timing of the visit to Delhi is extremely significant as political parties are expected to decide the roadmap to 2019 polls and discuss about initial poll strategies.
On 19th of Jannuary, Mamata Banerjee has called for a meeting of opposition parties at the historic brigade parade ground in Kolkata. According to sources, responding to the clarion call of Mamata Banerjee, Sonia Gandhi has decided to attend the meeting. It is learnt that Smt. Banerjee has talked to Mrs. Gandhi on a personal level and she has responded positively.
It is also learnt that disgruntled BJP leaders like Shatrughan Sinha, Arun Shourie and Yashwant Sinha are also expected to be present at the Brigade Parade ground. Other political leaders expected to be present in the historic meeting are Andhra Pradesh CM Mr. Chandrababu Naidu, Karnataka CM H.D.Kumaraswamy and his father, former PM H D Deve Gowda, DMK leader M K Stalin, NCP Chief Sharad Pawar, Samajwadi Party Chief Akhilesh Yadav, National Conference leader Omar Abdullah, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal and etc.
The results of the five State Assemblies are considered as the semi finals to the 2019 Lok Sabha polls. Political observers believe that it is also important for the Congress to perform well for the sake of the future of the grand old party. In near about 200 seats Congress and BJP will have a direct face to face fight and for almost 300 seats BJP will have a face a non congress party for the elections. The meeting called by Mamata Banerjee assumes a special importance according to analysts as she has been in the forefront in the efforts of uniting the opposition parties. After the results of the 5 State Assemblies, Bengal will lead the call of defeating the BJP Government in the polls. Much of the credit for uniting the anti BJP parties and leading the fight against BJP goes to the West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
