Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been an early adopter of social media and is also one of the most active leaders on various social media platforms. But, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee, of late, has surpassed Modi in terms of popularity. Her recent Facebook Lives show the powerful connect she has with the masses.
A recent comparison of Facebook accounts statistics reflect that Mamata Banerjee’s Facebook Lives are way more popular than PM Modi’s Lives. The Bengal Chief Minister’s videos have reached a greater number of people than that of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s videos.
For example, Mamata Banerjee’s Facebook Live of the grand Durga Puja Carnival at Red Road had a whopping 1.4 million views. Mamata went live on the night of Kali Puja, and within a few minutes, the Live titled ‘Kali Puja at my residence’ had garnered 26,000 views. Incidentally, just a day prior to this, PM Modi also went live on Facebook. The Live titled ‘BJP wants to change India’s destiny while the Opposition wants to promote their own dynasties’ had garnered 20,000 views initially. The difference is crystal clear.
PM Modi’s Facebook Lives are usually well orchestrated with at least 8-10 modern video cameras, while Mamata goes live on mobile phones only. Yet, her Live videos get more popular than Modi’s. To draw a football analogy we can surely say that CM Mamata Banerjee scores 10 goals against PM Modi in social media!
And it’s not a matter of just Facebook Lives, Mamata Banerjee’s posts on Facebook and Twitter, the picture postcards she posts and wishes made by her are also widely shared, liked and commented by people.
Political analysts opine that Mamata Banerjee’s Facebook Lives come out as earnest attempts and hence she connects with the people easily. Her development activities in the state, as well as her honest efforts to stand beside people, have also been reflected in various reports published by the centre which show Bengal leading in many aspects including 100-days of employment work, promoting gender equality in school-education, etc.
And now it is also as clear as day that Bengal Chief Minister Mamata’s social media connect is certainly stronger than PM Modi.
